Suncoast Credit Union Awarded $250,000 Grant to YMCA
May 24, 2016
TAMPA, FL (May 20, 2016) Suncoast Credit Union announces a $250,000 grant to YMCA of the Suncoast for the creation of the first permanent YMCA facility in Citrus County, celebrated today at a ribbon cutting ceremony. The grant makes possible the creation of a Teen Center to support Youth In Government, Youth Leadership Citrus and other programs for students.
Since first expanding its services into the area in 2007, YMCA of the Suncoast has not had its own building, instead partnering with local schools, churches and government entities to provide its services to residents of all ages.
This grant from the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation and an additional grant of $2.8 million from the Citrus Memorial Health Foundation enable the YMCA to open the Citrus Memorial Health Foundation YMCA, which will include an eight-lane pool, a family pool with a water slide, a wellness center and a Healthy Living Center with private meeting rooms, an auditorium and an education resource room. There is also a kids zone, outdoor basketball courts, a nature trail, a cycling room, group exercise facilities and a Teen Center to support Youth In Government, Youth Leadership Citrus and other programs for students.
"This new facility will be a place where the community can come together for health, wellness and education," says Cindy Helton, Executive Director of the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation. "When children and families have such a rich resource for their betterment, the entire community stands to benefit in lasting ways."
The Suncoast Credit Union Foundation has raised and donated over $16 million since 1990 to promote the education, health and emotional well-being of children in the 21 counties that the credit union serves.
