Pelican State Credit Union Proving Free Financial Literacy Workshop for Community

The credit union hosted a free Financial Literacy Workshop (FLW) for the Baton Rouge community on Monday, May 16th at the Baton Rouge Parish Main Library. Over 75 Baton Rouge residents received free financial education at the workshop. Pelican hosted two back-to-back presentations for the community: "Credit Score Breakdown - Understanding Credit Reports and Scores" and "Think Like a Millionaire Saving and Budgeting for Success." The presentations were given by two of Pelicans Nationally Certified Credit Counselors, Lynn Gobert and Kimberly Gaines. In addition to providing free financial education to the Baton Rouge community, Pelican also gave out door prizes and a free jambalaya dinner to all attendees. Credit union membership was not required to attend the event, receive dinner or be eligible for door prizes. "Louisiana ranks 48th in the nation for credit scores," said Jessica Oliver, Director of Financial Outreach, "which is why its part of Pelicans mission to provide free financial education and workshops to our branch communities across the state." Its five Nationally Certified Credit Counselors are always happy to help members by giving them information they need budget effectively, make sound financial decisions and, in some cases, improve their credit and consolidate debt.
