Diamond Credit Union Celebrates a Hockey Season of Giving
May 18, 2016
Diamond Credit Union worked with the Reading Royals hockey organization to help 13 local charities. For the second consecutive year, Diamond held the "Shoot for CommYOUNITY" challenge during Saturday home games at the Royals arena. The featured charity organizations had representatives shoot the puck for a chance to win up to $1,000 with a minimum donation of $100. In total the 13 organizations won $2,950.
The "Shoot For CommYOUNITY" challenge included the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Berks County; Boyertown Area Multi-Service Inc.; Keystone Iron Warriors and Keystone Wounded Warriors; KenCrest EmployNET; Opportunity House; Humane Society of Berks County; Berks Encore; HeartSAFE Berks County; Four Diamonds at Penn State Hershey Childrens Hospital (THON); American Cancer Society; Hawk Mountain Scout Council; Unending Promise and Autism Society of Berks County; and Reach for the Stars Buddy Walk of Berks County.
One of the most notable Saturday events was the February 13, Pink in the Rink night, featuring the American Cancer Society as the participating "Shoot For CommYOUNITY" charity organization. Brooke Haughney, a Diamond employee, took to the ice in honor of her mother, a cancer survivor. Haughney had no hockey experience whatsoever, so you can imagine her shock when she miraculously made both goals, earning $1,000 for the American Cancer Society.
