First Community Credit Union Awards $31,000 in Scholarships

CaptureJamestown, ND - First Community Credit Unions Board of Directors has once again awarded scholarships to first year college students from its membership. 16 graduating seniors from around the state will be receiving college scholarships. This year, FCCU will fund $31,000 in scholarships to members of the credit union, including multi-year scholarships from prior years. We are honored to provide nine multi-year $1,000 scholarships to the following students to use toward their college academia: �Ben Berg of Bismarck, Elizabeth Asp of Hankinson, Kaitlyn Weigel of Kintyre, Leah Olson of Mayville, Madeline Bennett of Valley City, Mariah Schroeder of Oriska, Ryder Goolsbey of Milnor, Rebekka Wanner of Wishek, Ryder Goolsbey of Milnor, and Savannah Kramlich of Jamestown. In addition, the following seven individuals will receive single-year $1,000 scholarships: �Brooks Kenney and Gillian Dahl of Fargo, Hunter Pinke of Wishek, Kaitlyn Breidenbach of Napoleon, Katelyn Long of Kintyre, Bethany Materi and Madeline Roaldson of Bismarck. Over the past 20 years, FCCU has provided more than $145,000 in college scholarships. The Board of Directors recognizes the importance of young people getting a good education and wants to encourage them to do their best. FCCU continues to do its part in providing incentives to help students reach their full potential. In recent years, the Credit Union donated $1 million into a scholarship foundation to provide additional scholarship dollars to graduating high school students. "I would like to extend our congratulations to the winners of the 2016 First Community Credit Union Scholarship Foundation Program. Best of luck to all our graduates this year," said Steve Schmitz, CEO of First Community Credit Union. During its 77 year history, First Community Credit Union has grown to be North Dakotas largest Credit Union with 150 employees and 15 branches whose field of membership covers approximately one third of the state. As a credit union, FCCU is owned by its members. This is different than other financial institutions which are owned by a select group of stockholders. The Credit Union's profits are returned to the members in the form of better services, accounts, and favorable rates on savings and loans.
