GPOFCU received The Rogerline Nicholson "Building Stronger Communities" award, one of three annual awards presented to an individual or organization which has significantly advanced E/BFSCs mission and in so doing has honored the memory of E/BFSCs resident founders. "This community service award is a significant honor for the credit union", said Timothy L. Anderson, GPOFCU President/CEO. "It is a testimony to the success of our partnership with E/BFSC to bring economic stability and affordable financial services to DC families". Since 2012, more than 230 clients in E/BFSCs Workforce Development Program have participated in GPOFCUs hands-on financial management workshops. Together, the credit union and E/BFSC assist the families and individuals in DCs Ward 5 in developing self sufficiency, and provide opportunities for economic success. GPOFCUs involvement and expansion of financial services to the DC community began in 2009 with approval of an underserved area field of membership expansion for the majority of Washington, DC, granted by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). In 2013,NCUA designated GPOFCU as a Low-Income Credit Union and the credit union was also granted certification by the US Treasurys Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund in 2015. These classifications include access to financial grants and benefits for GPOFCU to better serve low and moderate-income consumers and promote financial inclusion in its Washington, DC field of membership. About Edgewood/Brookland Family Support Collaborative

E/BFSC is one of five neighborhood-based Collaboratives in the District of Columbia which make up the city-wide Healthy Families, Thriving Communities Collaborative network. E/BFSC has been in existence since 1996 when a partnership consisting of residents and neighborhood- based organizations received a planning grant from the DC Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA). The planning grant facilitated the development of a community-based collaborative effort to design and implement a neighborhood-based family support system. In 2011, E/BFSC expanded its geographic target area and now provides services to all communities in Ward 5 and Ward 6.
