CaptureBOISE - Idaho Central Credit Union asked its members to help keep Idahoans warm this winter, and they answered the call. The credit union donated more than $3,100 to the 7Cares Coat Drive fund. That money was presented to the local Salvation Army branch last January. The non-profit organization used the money to purchasecoats forfamilies in need. In November, as temperatures began to drop, donations from our 7Cares Coat Drive were handed out by the Salvation Army. This year, 3,600 coats were donated, ensuring every child who signed up to receive a coat will get one.
The Salvation Army of the Treasure Valley gives out coats all winter long, and officials say there is always a need for new and gently used coats.
"Every year it's amazing how many people are struggling to stay warm and having to make choices how to spend money," said Maj. Bob Lloyd. "There's a lot of reasons why folks struggle to stay warm and may not have a coat. We want to be available all year-round to make sure that people stay warm and give coats out to anyone who needs a coat."
