HRCU book donation - 2016 Youth MonthROCHESTER, NH, (May 5, 2016) Holy Rosary Credit Union (HRCU) announced today that it has been visiting elementary students across Strafford County over the past month to donate a total of 260 financial literacy books to 19 public and private schools in recognition of National Credit Union Youth Month. "We feel strongly about engaging todays youth so they can learn the value of saving money and spending it wisely," said Brian Hughes, President & CEO of Holy Rosary Credit Union. "This program is another example of our commitment to the youth in our community." With the help of HRCUs M3 Money Saving Superheroes, Cash and Violet, the Credit Union visited elementary schools in Dover, Rochester, Somersworth, Farmington and Barrington to donate age-appropriate books that teach children good money habits. Many of the children were already familiar with Cash and Violet, and were thrilled to visit with them once again. "It was amazing to see how many kids already knew Cash and Violet," said Brian Hughes. "The level of enthusiasm and excitement in the kids was terrific!" Leah Sprowl, HRCUs Youth Educator and the Northeast Regional Coordinator & Treasurer of the National Youth Involvement Board, underscores the importance of reaching todays kids with financial education. "Research has shown us that by 5th grade, a child has set their money spending and saving behavior pattern that they will follow as an adult. That is why we feel it is critical to reach and teach good money habits early on." Each book was specifically chosen for the school environment, and contains a classroom activity for a teachers use. The titles of the books donated were: Sallys Big Save by Laura Driscoll Lunch Money by Andrew Clements The Berenstain Bears Trouble with Money by Stan Berenstain Curious George Saves His Pennies by Margaret & H.A. Ray Just Saving Money by Mercer Mayer. HRCU offers a variety of ways to teach financial literacy to youth all year round, which includes Super Saver Days at local schools, support for summer camps, scout badge programs, and library programming.
