We Promise Foundation Gives $250,000 Charitable GrantVirginia Beach, VA (April 28, 2016) The We Promise Foundation, the charitable arm of Chartway Federal Credit Union and its divisions of HeritageWest and SouthWest Community CUs, is proud to announce that it received a distinguished award from the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah during its Evening of Wishes gala: the David Bishop "Hope Through Wishes" Award. This honor is a meaningful one for the We Promise Foundation because David Bishop is a long-time cancer survivor. At the age of 16 years old after doctors had given him a less than 6% chance of survival he was given the opportunity to meet the Dave Matthews Band. He credits that wish with giving him the hope he needed to overcome the odds. Since that time, David has paid the opportunity to make a wish forward for countless other children. His contributions and dedication to making a lasting impact on the lives of children battling life-threatening illnesses led to the creation of the award. "Make-A-Wish Utah is honored to present the David Bishop Hope Through Wishes Award to the We Promise Foundation," said Jared Perry, the chief executive officer for Make-A-Wish Utah." "David Bishop is a living testament to the power of hope and how it can alter the course of a life-threatening medical condition. Through the generosity of The We Promise Foundation, we are able to share the power of a wish with children in Utah that are experiencing the same difficulties once endured by David. This award is an expression of our gratitude for the hope that The We Promise Foundation continues to provide for our wish kids." Following the award presentation, the We Promise Foundation also had a surprise for Make-A-Wish Utah: a $250,000 grant. "Having personally witnessed how the chance to make a wish makes a life-changing difference, we are overjoyed to once again partner with Make-A-Wish Utah to deliver special experiences to brave young fighters," said Skip Wilson, Chartways regional president western region. "May this contribution continue to celebrate and honor what so many heroes like David have taught us: that when you dream big, anything is possible." Altogether, the We Promise Foundation has raised more than $8,000,000 to make dreams come true for thousands of children with more than $1,100,000 of those funds given to organizations in Utah, including Make-A-Wish Utah and Ability Found.
