USCCU Mayor's AwardNASHVILLE, TN (April 26, 2016) US Community Credit Union (USCCU) was recently awarded the Nashville Mayors Award for Outstanding Districtwide PENCIL Partnership for their work in supporting Metro Nashville schools. USCCU is honored to help improve the lives of students in over 15 Metro Nashville schools teaching financial literacy. In the 2015-2016 school year, US Community Credit Union volunteered 4,000+ hours and donated over $164,000 through in-kind service and support of branch and school activities. In partnership with Metro Nashville Public Schools and the Academies of Nashville, US Community Credit Union operates two fully functional Student-Run Branches inside McGavock High School and Hillsboro High School. USCCU provides twenty students with paid internships during the summer to gain real world working experience as financial service representatives. Student interns are responsible for conducting daily teller transactions and opening accounts for other students at the schools. USCCU has even been able to retain students after graduation by giving them jobs while attending college. USCCU also works with eight elementary and five middle schools within MNPS to provide savings programs for students, as well as teaching classes on budgeting and proper money management. Paul Johnson, President/CEO of US Community Credit Union, stated "As a financial co-operative one of our seven principles is having a concern for the community. With the economic downturn in 2007, we realized there was an unmet need in Nashville to teach financial skills to tomorrows leaders. By providing student internships, teaching professionalism, and educating students of all ages on financial responsibility, we know we are making lasting impressions that will change the future of our city." About US Community Credit Union US Community Credit Union is a full service financial institution with branch locations throughout Middle Tennessee.
