Iowa Credit Union Foundation Awards $5,750 in Scholarships

DES MOINES, IA (April 25, 2016) The Iowa Credit Union Foundation (ICUF) recently awarded $5,750 to four high school students and two college students as recipients of its Warren A. Morrow Memorial Scholarship. This years recipients, who are pursuing postsecondary education, are:
  • $1,500 to Lucas Thormann, a member of Dupaco Community Credit Union and a graduating senior at Dubuque Senior High School, Dubuque, IA
  • $1,000 to Emily Kay Sassman, a member of Veridian Credit Union and a graduating senior at Waverly Shell Rock High School, Waverly, IA
  • $750 to Cortney Price, a member of DuTrac Community Credit Union and a graduating senior at Monticello High School, Monticello, IA
  • $500 to Anna Frerichs, a member of Linn Area Credit Union and a graduating senior at Kennedy High School, Cedar Rapids, IA
  • $1,000 to Anna-Maria Cornell, a member of Community 1st Credit Union who currently attends the University of Iowa
  • $1,000 to Abby Maples, a member of Collins Community Credit Union who currently attends Coe College
Applicants were required to complete an online entry form and answer an essay question in no more than 500 words, which was designed to encourage participants to learn about the credit union movement and its mission. This years question was: What are the long term benefits education will have on your financial independence and well-being? How can your credit union play a role in your financial future? The winners were selected out of more than 400 applicants based on originality, clarity and meaningful content, among other criteria. "The mission of the Iowa Credit Union Foundation (ICUF) is to help Iowans build wealth, responsibility and independence," said Jaimie Miller, Executive Director, ICUF. "We do this through critical programs such as the Warren A. Morrow Memorial Scholarship. This years awardees submitted inspiring essays on the benefits of higher education and the positive impact credit unions play in their financial lives. Congratulations to each of the finalists."
