HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (April 21, 2016) NuVision Federal Credit Union today announced it has launched the first annual Think.Tank.Challenge., an educational essay contest with $20,000 in prize money to be awarded to local high school students and participating schools. NuVisions Think.Tank.Challenge. will take place among four local high schools, including: Carson High School, Lakewood High School, Long Beach Polytechnic High School, and Schurr High School in Montebello. Kick-off assemblies are being held at each of the high schools. The contest will challenge students to "explain what young adults can do to become better savers," and to answer the question: "What will you do in the next five years to secure the future of your retirement?" As part of the contest, NuVision is also hosting educational financial workshops on the "ABCs of Credit, Saving and Investing" to be held at each of the schools for students, parents and teachers. NuVision has teamed up with local financial advisors to conduct the financial workshops, including Steve Alexson of Alexson Investment Group, Lester Baron of World Financial Group/Transamerica, and Eric Groenberg of You Plan Retirement. The top 10 essays from each school will be selected to submit to the Think.Tank.Challenge. website, www.thinktankchallenge.com, where they will be open to voting by the public from May 9 through May 24, 2016. The students will have the opportunity to promote their essay entry among family, friends and classmates to garner additional votes. The winners will be announced on the Think.Tank.Challenge. website in late May and individual ceremonies announcing the winners at each high school will take place prior to the end of the school year. "NuVision has a strong history of supporting education in the communities we serve, having awarded over $30,000 in scholarship money to local students since 2010," said Roger Ballard, Chief Executive Officer at NuVision Federal Credit Union. "This year, with the launch of Think.Tank.Challenge., we are expanding that support to both individual students and local high schools. Moreover, hundreds of students will benefit just by participating in this fun contest that promotes financial education." The Think.Tank.Challenge. will award a total of $20,000 in student scholarships and school prizes. Among all participating high schools, the 1st Place winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship, five Runner-Up winners will receive $1,000 each, and 10 Honorable Mention winners will receive $250 each, for a total of $12,500 in student scholarships.
