Georgia United Credit Union Awards $13,000 in Scholarships

CaptureDULUTH, GA (April 19, 2016) - Georgia United Credit Union is excited to announce the winners of their 2016 scholarship programs. A total of $13,000 was awarded and disbursed to fourteen high school seniors through the Vernon E. Carne Scholarship program and the Archbishop John F. Donoghue Catholic Scholarship program. This is the 22nd year that Georgia United has given the Vernon E. Carne Scholarship and the 9th year for the John F. Donoghue Catholic Scholarship. A total of approximately $168,000 has been awarded to high school seniors during the tenure of both programs. Recipients are chosen based on an essay competition with consideration given to academic accomplishments, leadership and participation in both school and community activities. First Place $3,000 Elliott Johnson J Schole Academy, Flowery Branch Second Place - $2,000 Elizabeth Harvey The Westminster School, Atlanta Third Place - $1,000 Christopher Lightsey Newton County High School, Covington Runner-up - $500 Rachel Flowers Norcross High School, Norcross Runner-up - $500 Kala Horvat Cedar Shoals High School, Athens Runner-up - $500 Dixie Waitman Dawson County High School, Dawsonville Runner-up - $500 Sara Chappell Northgate High School, Newnan Runner-up - $500 Emma Flynn Roswell High School, Roswell Runner-up - $500 Jason Lieb South Forsyth High School, Cumming Runner-up - $500 Astin Redden Darlington School, Rome Runner-up - $500 Maria Curry Starrs Mill High School, Fayetteville Runner-up - $500 Jessica Fanczi Mill Creek High School, Dacula Georgia United Credit Union 2016 John F.
