CaptureThe Portage and Area Refugee Coalition has received a $5,000 boost from the Portage Credit Union Refugee Coalition Steering Committee Member John Dolloff says it'll go between both families. "We're here to accept a donation from Portage Credit Union. $2,500 for each of the two Syrian families that we're sponsoring to come to Portage. So we're very pleased to accept that generous donation, and really appreciate them wanting to be involved in this project." Credit Union CEO Dave Omichinski says they're really happy to be help bring a refugee family to Portage. "We were so please in terms of being able to get on board with the support, with the fantastic support, that the whole community has come forth with. I mean, to bring families over, it's such a sad situation. I think with Portage opening our arms, in terms of welcoming a couple of families, there's some big price tags involved and we're pleased to be a part of it." Dolloff explains they still don't have a date of arrival. "We've been in touch with other groups who are involved in the same program across Canada. Through the Anglican Church -- which is our sponsorship agreement holder -- we've been making some inquiries with the Federal Government, to see if we can't just encourage them to help things move a little quicker." Dolloff adds the families could arrive any day though, so they want to be ready.
