Capital Credit Union Awards $8,000 in Scholarships

Bismarck, ND - Capital Credit Union has announced the 2016 recipients of the Howard J. Snortland scholarships. Eight $1,000 scholarships were awarded and announced at the credit unions 80th anniversary member event at the North Dakota Heritage Center on March 4.
The Howard J. Snortland Scholarship program was started in 1996 and, since that time, has awarded $94,500 to 100 students seeking a college education. It was named in Snortlands honor for his 60 years of volunteer service to Capital Credit Union. He was an elementary teacher, and served as the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the State of North Dakota, and also had a long history of volunteerism in the credit union movement.
The 2016 scholarship recipients are as follows:
- Eric Gefroh: He is from Bismarck and is currently attending the University of North Dakota, majoring in pre-med and psychology.
- Emily Greff: She is from Bismarck and is currently attending Bismarck State College, majoring in accounting.
- Victoria Degenstein: She is from Hazen and is currently attending the University of Mary, majoring in nursing and catholic studies.
- Eva Byerley: She is from Hazen and is currently a senior at Hazen High School. She plans on attending North Dakota State University in the fall and majoring in pharmacy.
- Benjamin Ottemoeller: He is from Bismarck and is currently a senior at Century High School. He plans on attending UND in the fall and majoring in mechanical engineering.
- Lindsey McMaster: She is from Bismarck and is currently attending Valley City State University, majoring in composite biology education.
- Thomas Friesz: He is from New Salem and is currently attending NDSU, majoring in agricultural economics.
- Bennett Strombeck: He is from Bismarck and is currently attending NDSU, majoring in electrical engineering.
