Zeal Credit Union Supports financial Literacy in Community

LIVONIA, Mich. Zeal Credit Union has partnered with the Livonia and Westland public libraries for financial presentations and activities for all ages during this years Money Smart Week, from April 23 - 30.
The first event, "Money Smart Storytime," will be held for children, ages three to six years, at Livonia Public Librarys Civic Center branch, located at 32777 Five Mile Road in Livonia. The event is scheduled from 11 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 23. In addition to hearing a money-related story, each child will receive a free bank to decorate and take home.
Tiffany Sweet, the credit unions youth and community coordinator, will be on hand to talk with parents about saving for their childs future and how to educate children about saving and spending. For more information, visit www.livonialibrary.org or call 734-466-2493.
The William P. Faust Public Library, located at 6123 Central City Parkway in Westland, will host a series of programs designed for youth and adults.
The first event, "A Day at the Park," will be held on Saturday, April 23, for children in 2nd through 5th grades. Held in the librarys Youth Activity Room, Sweet will help children explore the value of money and begin to think about saving for a visit to the ballpark.
On Monday, April 25, children ages two through seven years, are invited to enjoy a Money Smart Storytime from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. in Meeting Room B of the William P. Faust Public Library. Each family that registers and attends will receive a free copy of "Bunny Money" by Rosemary Wells, while supplies last.
On Wednesday, April 27, Zeal Credit Union will host a program specially designed for adults. Catherine Wall of GreenPath Debt Solutions will present "Steps to Financial Freedom" from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Meeting Room B of the Westland library. With many Americans struggling to dig themselves out of debt, Wall will describe ways to make a budget, minimize your debt and plan for financial freedom in the future.

The first Money Smart Week was held in Chicago in 2002 to help consumers learn to better manage their personal finances. Since then, Money Smart Week has expanded to all 50 states in the U.S. and includes partnerships with libraries and financial institutions.
