Black Hills FCU Supports Local Community
March 17, 2016
Rapid City, SD -After months of planning, Armadillos Ice Cream Shoppe and Black Hills Federal Credit Union announced their intentions today to build new facilities in downtown Rapid City. The two businesses have collaborated on the proposed projects which they believe will better serve the needs of the community.
Armadillos Ice Cream Shoppe plans to open a new facility, just across Second Street to the east, in March 2017. BHFCU will build a new member service center across the street from its Downtown location later that same year.
"The City and the East of 5th Street movement are making great strides in promoting and growing Rapid Citys downtown area into a thriving, better connected commercial center," said Roger Heacock, president and CEO of BHFCU. "This cooperative relationship provides an opportunity for our two long-standing organizations to be an important part of that redevelopment."
For more than 20 years, Armadillos has been serving hand crafted ice cream from their shop at 202 Main Street. Armadillos new location at 130 Main Street will have the same look and feel as its old location, but in a larger facility. Owner Mike Brummer said the new shop will feature more service windows, additional indoor and outdoor seating and a reserved area for parties, all while continuing to serve their famous ice cream at the same great prices.
"Our customers will experience little to no change, except for finding us on the east corner of Second Street instead of the west," Brummer said. "Were really excited to partner with Black Hills FCU to revitalize our service facilities and enhance the East of 5th corridor something that I strongly support."
BHFCU is still developing plans for their new downtown facility, according to Jerry Schmidt, senior vice president of operations. Schmidt said the new facility will be about half the size of the current member service center, but will provide greater efficiencies and allow BHFCU to take advantage of emerging technologies.
"This project supports our long-term goal of relocating the support staff currently concentrated in our downtown facility to our operations center off Deadwood Avenue," Schmidt said. "Our intention is to provide safer and more convenient service to our members with easier access to drive-up lanes and an enhanced, full-service lobby."
