The 8th Annual Miles for SMILES Walk/Run fundraiser took place this past Sunday March 13th at UMass Dartmouth.� The event was organized by People Incorporated to raise funds and awareness for their SouthCoast Mentoring Initiate for Learning, Education and Service or SMILES mentoring program.� The day began in the Tripp Athletic Center with food and drinks for participants as well as a DJ, kids games and a picture area that were set up to entertain everyone before the start of the walk/5K race.�St. Annes Credit Union was happy to sponsor a team of�30 employees, along with their family and friends, to this event. The Credit Union and its employees were able to raise funds for SMILES to help them continue their work empowering the youth in our community to make positive life choices that enable them to maximize their potential.� St. Annes has supported the SMILES mentoring program since it first came to Fall River and SACU also has a few employees who volunteer their time as mentors for SMILES by going into local classrooms and helping their mentees learn reading and writing skills.
