March 14, 2016
Rapid City, S.D. Black Hills Federal Credit Union employees assembled a piece of cake out of more than 1,400 cans and non-perishable goods at the Rushmore Mall this February during the first Canstruction-Rapid City contest.
BHFCUs Community Action Team raised over $800 to purchase non-perishable goods for the live, public build event to benefit Feeding South Dakota, a state-wide food pantry.
"This was a fun and competitive way to get many of the businesses and people here in town involved with Feeding South Dakota," said Anna Snelling, chair of the Community Action Team Project. "It was amazing to see peoples creativity being put to use for such a great organization and cause."
BHFCU and the contests four other teams also raised nearly $400 during the "Peoples Choice" donation drive to benefit the Hope Center. The Center provides basic services to those living in poverty and/or without homes in Rapid City.
Employees also crafted over 1,000 Valentines Day cards for BHFCUs Valentines for Vets project, raised $500 for the Front Porch Coalition and participated in Black Hills Cares: Walk for Warmth last month.
BHFCUs employee-led Community Action Team provides support for community projects, charities and events throughout the year through various fundraising and volunteer efforts.
