Scott Credit Union Sponsors Local Basketball Tournament

IMG_2979Scott Credit Union signed on recently to become the namesake sponsor of the annual Tiger Pride Basketball Tournament that will be held March 12-13 at three venues in Edwardsville. The Scott Credit Union Tiger Pride Tournament, which is one of the largest basketball tournaments in the Madison County area, currently has registered more than 70 teams. The tournament will feature boys and girls brackets for teams from third through eighth grade. The Scott Credit Union Tiger Pride Tournament is a key fundraiser for Edwardsville High Schools Basketball Boosters program. Representatives from Scott Credit Union presented a $4,000 check recently to tournament organizers and school officials for this years tournament. Scott Credit Union will be the primary sponsor of the event for four years. "Were very proud to be the primary sponsor of this tournament," said Scott Credit Union Community Relations Representative Carol Wylie. "We are excited about supporting this event. We truly believe in supporting our schools and our communities and this is another great opportunity to do that." The tournament will be held at Edwardsville High School, Lincoln Middle School and Cassens Elementary School, according to tournament Chairman Eric Stopka. "We are excited about the tournament because they are expecting 76 teams and about 2,000 spectators throughout the event," Wylie said. "What a great way to showcase Edwardsville to the area and to raise money for Edwardsville Tigers Basketball." Scott Credit Union has made giving back to its communities a major priority. The local credit union contributed about $370,000, and its employees volunteered over 2,400 hours to a variety of area civic efforts throughout the region in 2015. The credit union has contributed approximately $1.75 million and its employees have volunteered nearly 15,000 hours to a variety of local civic efforts and financial education throughout the region in past seven years.   "We realize that without our members and the communities in which we serve, we would not exist as a financial alternative," Wylie noted. "Supporting our communities is very important to us." The credit union has increased its community involvement in the past few years while also increasing its efforts to educate consumers of the value of doing their financial business with a not-for-profit credit union. "We want people in the area to know more about the value of doing business with a credit union," she added. "That is why we have focused our time on educating area residents about Scott Credit Union. One of the big ways weve done that is through our community involvement." Scott Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative that is member owned. The credit union recently gave about $1.3 million back to members through a bonus dividend and loan interest rebate. Scott Credit Union is open to anyone who lives or works in a 17 county area, including Madison, St. Clair, Monroe, Randolph, Perry, Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, Clinton, Marion, Bond, Macoupin, Montgomery, Fayette, Effingham, Williamson, and Jackson counties.
