CaptureLangley Federal Credit Union recently donated $10,000 to Avalon: A Center for Women and Children as part of an ongoing effort to address issues of poverty and violence in the area. Langley Federal Credit Union is based in Hampton Roads and has 18 branches spread throughout the Peninsula. The grant is part of a larger initiative to support organizations in Langleys service area that address both domestic violence and homelessness. The $10,000 that Avalon received will go to support their emergency shelter, services and outreach program. The other organizations that received money as part of this initiative are LINK of Hampton Roads, which addresses numerous issues relating to poverty in the Hampton Roads area, and Transitions Family Violence Services, which primarily serves Hampton Roads and Newport News but also provides some services in York County. Both non-profits received $10,000 each. "These organizations were chosen because of their dedication to providing emergency and transitional housing for those who are less fortunate or find themselves in a situation where they need shelter," said Langley AVP Corporate Relations Gary Hunter.
