002_1NEW HAVEN, Conn. Spare change adds up, and the results can help make an impact on the community. With its Coins-for-Change program, Connex Credit Union has developed a way to utilize our often neglected pocket change to support local non-profit organizations. As a part of its philanthropic program ConnexCares, Connex Credit Union recently donated more than $800, from the fees collected by Connexs coin-cashing machine at their North Haven branch, to Literacy Volunteers of Greater New Haven. Coins-for-Change charges a five percent fee to members, a seven percent fee to non-members and donates the fees collected to charitable organizations in the local community. "We are very grateful to Connex Credit Union for supporting Literacy Volunteers with this donation and its ongoing commitment to bettering our communities," said Donna Violante, executive director, Literacy Volunteers of Greater New Haven. "These funds will be used to aid our programs in greater New Haven, and help us continue to empower adults through literacy." Literacy Volunteers of Greater New Haven recruits, trains and supports volunteers to tutor adult students through free classes in reading, writing and English conversation. The money contributed through Coins-for-Change will be utilized to support these programs. Literacy Volunteers mission is to create a community where 100 percent literacy is the norm.
