St. Anne's Credit Union Helps the Homeless
February 17, 2016
FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS, - During the month of January, St. Annes Credit Union once again took part in the winter blanket and clothing drive sponsored by the Cooperative Credit Union Association, Inc. and the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. The CCUAs Annual Drive began in 2011and over the course of those 5 years Massachusetts Credit Unions have been able to collect and donate approximately 4,000 winter items that were either donated directly to the MA Coalition for the Homeless or to other local organizations that help the homeless population.
This winter St. Annes Credit Union was able to pair the CCUAs Drive with their Warm Hands & Warm Hearts Project, a project that St. Annes employees run that collects and distributes winter accessories to the homeless and low income populations in the community. Last year SACU distributed the winter accessories by placing them in high need areas and affixing each item with a tag that explained that it was free for the taking in hopes that the person would pay it forward and help someone else in turn. This year St. Annes employees have been able to distribute close to 500 items already, many of which were given to local soup kitchens for their patrons. Also new this year in addition to the tag that each item has, every item that is distributed has a granola bar, sandwich crackers packet or something similar attached to the item as well. St. Annes Credit Union was happy to take part in the CCUAs Annual Drive again this year and are very thankful for all the Credit Union employees, members and individuals from the community who have donated to the Warm Hands & Warm Hearts project for far this winter!
