Monrovia Banners2Classroom attendance is often an overlooked priority in schools today. Monrovia Unified School District wanted to address this problem and find a simple way to remind students and parents of the importance of being at school every day, on time. The district turned to Foothill Credit Union of California(Foothill) for help in getting the message out. Debby Collins, Deputy Superintendent, Human Resources at Monrovia Unified contacted Foothill to see if the credit union would be able to assist by providing banners to be hung at each school site. Foothills Marketing Director, Stacy Arena was quick to respond to the request, and in a matter of hours a design proof was created for the districts approval. Within the week, the banners were printed and delivered. The banners, which read, "On time, In class, every day- It pays to be in school!" were hung in a prominent location at the schools just before the 2012 winter break. Collins accredited the idea for banners to Ryan Menlove, an instructor at Monrovia High School. "We were trying to figure out what we could do to make parents aware that its important for students to be in class; when students are present, the districts gets funding, and that benefits their education," Menlove said. FFCU specializes in serving local school district and hospital employees. The credit union strives to exceed its members expectations. Several FFCU employees regularly volunteer to participate in community events.
