IC Federal Credit Union Gives Back to Community
February 5, 2016
Fitchburg, MA February 3, 2016 Since its inception in 1928, IC Federal Credit Union has upheld a service and support-oriented attitude, dedicated to the six counties in which they serve. IC was founded on the premise of people helping people, (adopting the credit union model), providing a fair rate of return on deposits, making funds available to those who were following their dream of homeownership or even entrepreneurship.
To this day, IC continues its promise not only to its Members, but to the community at large by participating in or supporting give-back type organizations such as health foundations, food pantries, youth programs, shelters, Veterans, civic events, scholarship programs, including support to United Way of N. Central MA. "Community outreach has been and will always be the heart of IC," said Tony Emerson, CEO, "in fact, part of our mission statement says "to improve the well-being of our Members". "Furthermore, we believe that involvement in our communities through outreach, volunteerism, corporate giving, and corporate responsibility can effect meaningful, long-term change," said Emerson. A total of $115,000 was donated throughout 2015.
In addition, IC introduced a "Change for Charity" program last June that gives a percentage of all coin machine processed dollars to local organizations that provide a service to the community. To date this program has donated over $15,000 to organizations such as the GVNA, the Boys & Girls Clubs, Veterans Centers, and HealthAlliance services.
Employees likewise take a proactive approach to this concept by not only contributing to local organizations via their United Way campaign pledges of $15,000, but in 2010, employees found a "Jeans for Charity" program, (first of its kind), helping and supporting community organizations by paying to wear jeans on Friday or Saturdays. To date, they have donated more than $50,000. Employees also volunteer every year at charitable organizations and events.
