Hanscom FCU Helps Provide $1,000 in Gift Cards to Hospitalized Veterans

Hanscom FCU and the Armed Forces Financial Network partnered recently to provide $1,000 in Thank You Cards for families of hospitalized U.S. veterans. The $50 cards were delivered to Fisher House Boston, a 20-unit facility located on the West Roxbury campus of the VA Boston Healthcare System. Fisher House provides free accommodation for families caring for loved ones at VA hospitals around the world. "The cards will help families pay for food, gas, and personal expenses," explained Hanscom FCU Chairman of the Board Paul Marotta. "Caring for someone in the hospital is not easy. We hope this makes things a bit easier." Hanscom FCU maintains a year-round connection with Fisher House Boston, visiting quarterly to cook dinner for guests. Marotta frequently leads the team. "We have a new understanding of what its like for Fisher House guests. Fifty dollars can mean a lot when youre away from home, focused on helping a loved one get better." Since 1991, the Fisher House Foundation has donated 67 "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers in the United States and overseas. The foundation has served over 250,000 families, saving them more than $282 million in lodging and transportation costs.
