Educational Community Credit Union Donates More Than $4,500 to Local Organizations

CaptureKalamazoo, MI - ECCUs Caring Committee is comprised of seven staff volunteers who coordinate the annual fundraising efforts among the credit unions 130+ employees that ultimately benefit three handpicked local charities. Through events like the highly anticipated "Casual For A Cause" jeans days and internal auctions that result in friendly (and often humorous) bidding wars for homemade treats, photography sessions, and more, ECCU staff raised a total of $4,560 in 2015 for three local organizations. Housing Resources, Inc. (HRI) received $1,500 in March 2015, bringing the total amount the credit union has donated to HRI to $5,214 in the span of three years. The funds were directed toward efforts to rapidly re-house families who are leaving emergency shelter to transition into safe, affordable and permanent housing. Learn more at housingresourcesinc.org. Kalamazoo Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention Council (KCAN) received $2,000 in June 2015 from donations collected in April and May 2015. Funds were applied to their "Be A Lifesaver" campaign, which helps spread awareness of Child Abuse Prevention Month. KCAN helps prevents abuse and neglect through educational campaigns, prevention programs, free community resource guides, and more. Learn more at kalamazoocan.com. Kalamazoo Humane Society received $1,060 in December 2015.
