BHFCU-WallMSC-CountryCupboardRapid City, S.D. In a fierce bidding war last month, Black Hills Federal Credit Union employees were able to raise $800 for Storybook Island Inc. through BHFCUs annual Ugly Sweaters silent auction. The fundraiser will support educational programs and management of the non-profit childrens park in Rapid City, South Dakota. The parks sets, which portray characters from various childrens stories, fables and nursery rhymes, provide free, safe, and educational opportunities for children and adults all year. "Storybook Island is an amazing part of what makes our community so special," said Holly Peterson Pickens, chair of BHFCUs Storybook Island Community Action Team Project. "Its grown to become an important part of Rapid Citys identity, and were proud to be able to support its mission." BHFCUs employees also donated 120 childrens toys for the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program and over 230 items like socks, puzzles, and deodorant to veterans in Hot Springs and Pierre in December. They also donated over 100 coats to the Hot Springs Community Action Agency. Employee also spent time packaging over 500 pounds of potatoes for the Wall Country Cupboard Food Panty and raised money for the Western South Dakota Senior Services, Inc.s MEALS Program, which provides hot, nutritious meals to home-bound seniors throughout Western South Dakota. This month, employees will participate in a blood drive and more.
