CaptureNORTH HAVEN, Conn. Connex Credit Union recently partnered with Columbus House for its "Home for the Holidays" drive, a campaign that helped shelter families move into new homes by collecting basic necessities for daily life, as well as toys for the children. The donation drive ran from Nov. 16 through Dec. 16, 2015, and all seven Connex branches collected items and monetary donations to build housewarming kits that helped these families transition out of homelessness and into their own homes. More than 200 new items were donated by Connex staff and members. These contributions included the kitchen, bathroom and cleaning supplies necessary for basic home life. In total, seven complete housewarming kits were compiled and used to aid the transition for these families. Additionally, Columbus House was the recipient of a check worth $1,020. "We are elated with the contributions we received during our Home for the Holidays campaign," said Louise Nestor, director of marketing, Connex Credit Union. "Transitioning out of homelessness is a difficult process both mentally and financially. We are proud to see our employees and members banding together to give those less fortunate assistance in starting their new lives." Columbus House is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that has been providing solutions to homelessness since 1982. Columbus House not only provides emergency shelter, but also expanded their services to assist those who are homeless on their path to independence.
