CaptureSkyOne Federal Credit Union Brightens the Holidays for Local Homeless Youth HAWTHORNE, CA (December 29, 2015) On December 18, SkyOne Federal Credit Union staff donated gifts and blankets to Covenant House California, a non-profit organization who reaches out to at-risk homeless youth living on the streets and offers them hope and opportunities to turn their lives around. SkyOnes holiday tree at its Hawthorne headquarters was adorned with ornaments that represent the youth at the Covenant House. Each ornament contained a youths name and wish list, and SkyOne employees "adopted" them for the holidays by choosing the ornament. Gifts ranged from towels and toothpaste to backpacks, headphones, and baseball caps for the teens favorite sports teams. A SkyOne employee even made it possible for one Covenant House teen to attend a Lakers game with three of their lucky friends! "Many of these kids have never even received a present or celebrated the holidays," said Noel Russell, Community Involvement Coordinator for Covenant House California. "Many of them grew up in foster care, and some of them have been living on the streets since a very young age, so receiving presents for the holidays is a dream-come-true." "Many of these kids lack even the basic necessities that we often take for granted," agreed Kathy Cunico, the SkyOne employee who co-organized the donation drive along with Sandra Jenkins. "The support and participation everyone showed truly warmed my heart. Once we started going through the teens wish lists, we noticed that almost all them wished for a blanket, so we collected donations from employees and business partners to provide a blanket to all the kids to keep them warm this winter." The donation drive continues SkyOnes tradition of community support. Eileen Rivera, the President and CEO of SkyOne added, "Id like to thank our staff and business partners for embracing the spirit of giving. Its especially important during the holidays to give back to our local communities. It was our pleasure to support Covenant House California, and to support the at-risk youth in our community. We wish them a happy and safe holiday season." To learn more about SkyOne or how you and your organization can help Covenant House California, visit www.SkyOne.org, or CovenantHouseCalifornia.org.
