Peach State Federal Credit UnionAwarding $146,000 in Scholarships

CaptureLAWRENCEVILLE, GA Peach State Federal Credit Union is currently accepting applications for its scholarship program.� The credit union plans to award more than $146,000 in scholarships and educational grants.� The program was established to honor the credit unions founders, as well as past and present board members and employees.��Scholarships will also be awarded in honor of the lifetime achievements of several notable school system and community leaders. In keeping with its longstanding tradition of offering scholarships to the students within its footprint, the credit union has added two new scholarships. These scholarships honor the contributions of Richmond Community FCUs volunteer Board of Directors following their merger with Peach State earlier this year. Scholarship winners will be announced in the spring of 2016.���The following is a list of the scholarships that are available:
  • Nineteen $2,000 Career Advancement Scholarships will be awarded to members to assist in their continuing education in honor of the credit unions founders.
  • Nine Legacy Scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors who will be attending college to pursue a degree in education and plan to return to Georgia to teach.��These $2,500 scholarships are in honor of past and present board members and employees who have served Peach State for 20 years or more.
  • Six $2,500 scholarships will be awarded in honor of the lifetime achievements of the following school system leaders: Anderson Byers, retired Superintendent of Jackson County School System; Dan Cromer, retired Barrow County School System Superintendent; John Jackson, retired Superintendent of the Oconee County School System; Louise Radloff, member of the Gwinnett County Board of Education; J. Alvin Wilbanks, CEO and Superintendent of Gwinnett County Public Schools; and Rick Cost, retiring Chief Financial Officer for Gwinnett County Public Schools.
  • Two $2,500 scholarships will be awarded in honor of the lifetime achievements of Janet Pomeroy and Pearlie Woods to Clarke County high school graduates on the basis of financial need, academic credentials, and a demonstrated commitment to community service.
  • The newly created Brian J. Mulherin, Sr. Student Scholarship honors Brian J. Mulherin, Sr., former Director Emeritus for Richmond Community FCU prior to their merger with Peach State. The scholarship will award $2,500 to a Richmond County High School graduate on the basis of financial need, academic credentials and a demonstrated commitment to community service.
  • The 1st annual Gracewood Student Scholarship honors the volunteer Board of Directors from Richmond Community FCU for their years of service to the credit union (prior to their merger with Peach State). This $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a Richmond County High School graduate on the basis of financial need, academic credentials and a demonstrated commitment to community service.
  • Peach State is also proud to support the following with a combined total of $61,200 in scholarships and educational grants in 2016: Gwinnett County Public Schools, Georgia Gwinnett College, Gwinnett Technical College, University of North Georgia and Athens Technical College.
