Transitions Let's Talk SoftwareMarysville, MI - Eleven students enrolled in the St. Clair County Transition Program, Marysville, are learning to count coins and give correct change by utilizing Lets TALK, a new interactive money software program made possible through a $500 donation from Advia Credit Union. The VLA Transition Program works with individuals who are 18-26 years old and eligible for special educational services. It provides education and work experience designed to help students get a job, live independently and become active community members. "The Let's TALK money software is a fantastic integration into our classroom," says Douglas Bishop, academic career coach at St. Clair County Regional Educational Service Agency. "The interactive smart board allows for individual as well as group activities while also promoting a social and engaging learning environment." Designed to offer both visual and auditory support to students, lessons include introduction to money and money management; identifying, matching and counting coins; making change, adding costs of items and giving correct change. It also allows teachers to track individual progress, provide one on one instruction, and introduce new vocabulary. "Supporting a project that features hands on learning and promotes financial literacy is a natural fit for Advia Credit Union where our mission is to provide financial advantages to our communities," says Nancy Loftis, Vice-President of Marketing and Public Relations. "Programs that teach functional math, along with real life work and life skills, benefit all members of the community."
