Facebook Winners1.pdfBeloit, WI Because he says his high school experience was amazing, Beloit native Luke Michael Scribner didnt think twice about choosing a hometown organization to receive a $500 donation as the winner of a Facebook contest in late October. Luke, 19, entered an Advia Credit Union Facebook contest in celebration of International Credit Union Day, by replying to the question, "Whats your favorite advantage of membership at Advia?" A member of Advia Credit Union since 2009, Luke says he saw the contest and thought it was so simple to answer. "The staff is always very nice; many learn your name and it is a very friendly and helpful environment," he says. Nearly 800 people from Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin responded to the contest by posting the advantages of membership at the credit union. As the winner, Luke won a $500 shopping spree and could designate a charity or educational group in Advia Credit Unions Community Advantage Program to receive a $500 donation as well. The recipient: F. J. Turner High School As a student at F.J. Turner High School, Luke was secretary of the Student Council and involved with the National Honors Society. He graduated in 2014."I loved all my teachers," he says. "They were phenomenal!" Dr. Dennis McCarthy, superintendent of Beloit-Turner School District, was on hand to accept the $500 donation at Advia Credit Unions 4th Street Branch on Nov. 7th. Delighted with the unexpected donation, he asked Luke what school program he would like to see it fund. Lukes reply: Turner High School Student Council. Luke is pleased with his prize and says he will put it to good use. To help pay for college, this past summer he worked 45 to 48 hours a week at Beloit Box Board and an additional 13 to 18 hours a week at Papa Murphy's Pizza. He is currently a Biomedical sciences major at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, with plans to attend a Physician's Assistant Program in the Twin Cities, MN, after graduation. Nancy Loftis, Vice-President of Marketing and Public Relations, says Advia Credit Union is proud to provide real financial advantages to its member-owners. "Its important to give back to our communities where we live and work and its apparent that members like Luke share our philosophy," she says. "By reinvesting in our communities, we are helping to enhance the quality of life and strengthen the financial health of our area residents."
