November 3, 2015
SOUTHGATE, Mich. The Downriver Chapter of Credit Unions recently announced grants totaling $4,000 awarded to five Downriver area non-profits. Since 2010, the Downriver Chapter has awarded $49, 311 to local organizations. Funds are raised through the Chapters annual golf outing and other activities by the fifteen credit unions in the Downriver area.
Presentations will be made to representatives of this years five award recipients at the Chapters Annual Employee Appreciation night on International Credit Union Day. These include Personal Caring Ministries, Gibraltar Food Bank, Vista Maria Reads, Blessings in a Backpack Wyandotte and Taylor Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force. The event was held at Crystal Gardens Banquet Center in Southgate, MI on Thursday, October 15, 2015.
"This is the first year the chapter has accepted and awarded grant requests and presented them on International Credit Union Day," said Carma Peters, President/CEO of Michigan Legacy Credit Union and Downriver Chapter charity grants committee. "The selection was very difficult, as there are many deserving organizations that are helping people in need in a variety of way throughout Wayne and Monroe counties. The Chapter is hopeful to be able to provide larger grants going forward." The Chapter will be awarding grants to the Yes Maam program at the Chapter Holiday Luncheon in December.
The Downriver Chapter of Credit Unions is a chapter of the Michigan Credit
