First Community Credit Union Gives Back to Community on ICU Day
October 27, 2015
Jamestown, ND - On October 15, 2015, credit union members around the world celebrated International Credit Union Day, an annual event to commemorate the credit union movements impact and achievements. In honor of this special day, First Community Credit Union gave back to local communities in a variety of ways.
This years theme, "People Helping People," embraces the long-standing credit union philosophy and spurred the idea to support our fourth quarter charity by giving back to the communities and helping others through serving lunch at Sanford Childrens Hospital. FCCU staff in Bismarck served over35 people, while FCCU Fargo staff and the FCCU Marketing department served nearly 80 people at the Sanford Children's Hospital in Fargo. PeeWee the Penguin also made a surprise appearance to help put smiles on kids faces.
In addition, employees in several othertowns delivered baked goodies, chex mix, waters and other treats to farmers, workers at local elevators, nursing homes, and other local businesses.
"While serving lunch at the hospital I had the chance to visit with a mother, Sarah, that had a premature baby in the NICU," said Janna Bergstedt, FCCU Marketing Manager. "She happened to be from Jamestown, and after a brief conversation about her baby that was born at just 23 weeks, she told me how grateful she was for the meal and for the time we spent at the hospital. She went on to say how the small gesture really means a lot as she had already been in the hospital for a few weeks and her little boy wouldhave to be there for several more months. With FCCU's fourth quarter charity, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals,we're helping people like Sarah in Jamestown and families all around the state. It was such a wonderful opportunity to carry out the theme of 'People Helping People' that day and every day at First Community Credit Union."
