Georgia United Credit Union Awards $12,000 Grant to Local Elementary School

Cohutta Grant WinnerCohutta, GA - Whitfield County Schools Cohutta Elementary welcomed some special visitors this afternoon, who delivered a $12,000 Runner-Up grant and a box of student supplies as part of Georgia United Credit Unions School Crashers program. Thanks to Second Grade Teacher Kendra Henson for writing a heart-felt nomination to enter Cohutta Elementary in Georgia Uniteds 2nd annual School Crashers makeover program earlier this spring.� The school is located at 254 Wolfe Street in Cohutta, has 340 students, and was one of five runner-up grant recipient school selected from hundreds of entries. The school is receiving kid-friendly carpeting donated by Mohawk with Georgia United providing installation and landscaping funds for an estimated value of $12,000. Cohutta Elementary will receive their Mohawk Carpeting before the end of October and Georgia United will be assisting with a school beautification day on Saturday, October 24.� The landscaping project will be led by ColorScapes of Dalton. Georgia United School Crashers 2015 first place winner Woodward Elementary won the equivalent of a school improvement sweepstakes when they received the top prize earlier this summer.� Georgia United coordinated 300+ community volunteers and corporate donors to work alongside the DeKalb County School System to complete a long list of school improvement projects for the Title 1 School located at 3034 Curtis Drive in Atlanta. The five runner-up schools each receive their grants and project assistance this fall.� The remaining runner-up schools are Kelley Lake Elementary, Brockett Elementary, Laurel Ridge Elementary and Peachtree Elementary.
