The annual scholarship is awarded to seniors at each of the three Bradley County high schools. To win the scholarship, applicants must write an essay on the dangers of drunk driving. The scholarship was inspired by the death of Kimberly's own son, Dustin, who was killed by a drunk driver in 2005. "When he was killed, I questioned God as to why because I knew that Dustin was special and he didn't get to fulfill his purpose in life," wrote Kimberly in her entry. "I immediately realized that God did have a purpose for him but I had to do the work telling Dustin's story. . . Dustin's story is being told and saving lives." Michael Aseron, owner of Shane's Rib Shack and Dustin's employer at the time of his death, was instrumental in starting the scholarship fund. "Dustin was a comedian," Aseron remembered with a smile. Don Littrell on Vicki Ownby also serve on the scholarship committee. The Pay It Forward program will continue through 2015, and that means any member of Bowater Credit Union can nominate their favorite non-profit for a $1,000 Pay It Forward prize. Two more prizes will be given out in 2015. For more information, visit www.bowaterecu.org and look under the "News & Info" tab.
