TUCSON, Ariz. � Vantage West Credit Union (
www.vantagewest.org), Southern Arizonas largest credit union, wants a first-year graduate student at the University of Arizona to focus on his studies and feel at home as he settles into student housing.� To do that, Vantage West has offered the student a $1,500 dorm room makeover.
In the coming days, Paul Winkler and his three roommates will see their stark, minimalist living quarters transform into a cozier, more polished apartment without breaking the bank. Vantage West is working with a designer who is focused on finding affordable items from a variety of stores to accent the on-campus apartment, sourcing locally produced pieces and finding ways to fuse function with design.
The final reveal is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 9, 2015.
"We thought it would be fun to award a dorm room makeover, understanding that the weighty cost of college tuition, for many, overshadows any budget for stylish and functional dorm living," Jill Casey, Vantage Wests assistant vice president of communications and content marketing, said. "Staying engaged with college students also allows us to reinforce the importance of saving and budgeting. It is vitally important that young consumers start their adult lives off on a strong financial footing."
Winkler, who is pursuing a graduate degree in optic sciences, noticed a Vantage West Credit Union ATM on campus at the University of Arizona and decided to open an account. He was randomly selected for the makeover from a pool of entrants who opened student accounts during a specific time period earlier this year.
Winkler met with the designer to discuss preferences and possibilities prior to the Oct. 9 reveal.
