CaptureMaine - New Dimensions Federal Credit Union Recently Hosted Cruisin for a Cure. The Cruisin for a Cure Car Show is a unique event where all the money that is raised is directly donated to the Maine Childrens Cancer Program in Scarborough, Maine. 2015 marked the second annual show that was held June 27, 2015 at the Faith Evangelical Free Church in Waterville, Maine. Spectators attended the car show for free while the participants paid a nominal registration fee of $10 per vehicle. Registration began at 8am with the show quickly starting at 10am. Local radio personality, Steve Colella from 93.5 True Oldies, joined us and emceed the event and awarded trophies at the end of the day. We also had special guest, Crystal, from CruiseMaine Magazine mingling with the crowd and sharing in the excitement of the show! With many different auto classes available for participants to enter their vehicles into, the Peoples Choice and Best of Show were the most coveted prizes. As an added bonus, the Best of Show winner will have a feature article highlighting not only their automotive success, but also a picture of them with their car in the 2016 CruiseMaine Magazine. The event alone raised a total of $7592 and received a 100% Miracle Match from the CO-OP Financial Services for credit unions. With the generosity of the Miracle Match, spectators, participants, volunteers, and many others, the total donation to the Maine Childrens Cancer Program was over $15,000! We would be remiss to say that our motivation and inspiration comes from one gentleman, Mr. Sylvio Normandeau. Many years ago, Mr. Normandeau made a promise to his terminally ill wife, Julia, that he would help the kids of Maine that are diagnosed with cancer. His commitment and dedication to personally raising $500,000 is becoming a reality as he has currently accumulated a total of $454,000 for the Maine Childrens Cancer Program! The New Dimensions FCU team looks forward to many more years hosting the Cruisin for a Cure Car Show while working closely with Mr. Sylvio Normandeau to continually raise awareness and collect money for the Maine Childrens Cancer Program!
