Going GoldGlendora, CA, Around the world, September is recognized as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This past week, Americas Christian Credit Union (ACCU) decided to "Go Gold" to bring support and awareness to the battle against Childhood Cancer. After a week of fundraising, along with a company match, ACCU employees presented a check to Khloe Carlson-Torres in the amount of $600, representing the total funds they and their employer contributed to the cause. Khloe, is a first grader in Glendora, who has been battling cancer for the past two years. While going through a recent round of treatment at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), Khloe was given a variety of childrens books, which kept her busy and cheered her up! In the midst of her own fight, she has been working hard to help and encourage children just like her. Earlier this year, with the support of the Glendora School District, the Glendora Chamber of Commerce, and local businesses, Khloe was able to purchase more than 1,400 books for the children at CHLA. Khloe is now getting ready to kick off her second book drive for CHLA. ACCU was excited to start her off with this contribution! Throughout the week of September 21, ACCU staff contributed funds toward Khloes dream of buying books. Also during this campaign, each employee who contributed to the cause sported a gold ribbon in honor of Khloes strength and fearlessness. When presented with the $600 check, Khloes mother Kristianna Torres exclaimed "Thank you! We greatly appreciate this donation, CHLA is really underfunded on books. Last year we raised enough money to donate 1,400 books. This year, Khloes goal is 2,000 books, and ACCU is helping her reach her goal." Mr. Thompson declared, "I am amazed by our staff for their prayers and generosity in donating to support a wonderful young girl like Khloe. Khloe is a living testament of strength and selflessness through her actions and encouragement toward the children of CHLA. She is so brave and we are all inspired by her." *Pictured Kristianna Torres, Khloe Carlson-Torres, Mendell L.
