The City of Methuen suffered six casualties on that tragic day and Mr. Flagg, a Methuen resident who worked in tandem with the Mayors Office, wanted to help create a place of remembrance for those wishing to pay their respects to the victims and heroes. After three years of effort, Methuen last week received a 106-pound, 5-foot long steel beam from the Twin Towers, in time for the annual September 11th remembrance at the citys Central Fire Station. "We are very proud of Scotts efforts to create a lasting tribute to those who perished, and those who gave so willingly of themselves to save others, on September 11th," said Mark S. Cochran, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jeanne DArc Credit Union. Mr. Flagg, along with the Mayors Office, worked with the Port Authority to secure the artifact, which will be permanently displayed outside of the Central Fire Station as a lasting memorial to the thousands of victims and heroes of September 11th. "Receiving a piece of the World Trade Center will be a constant reminder of that fateful day in 2001 when all of our lives changed forever," said Methuen Mayor Steve Zanni. "It will serve as a tangible tribute to the many lives lost, including six of our own Methuen natives. Our annual remembrance also pays homage to the public safety personnel who sacrificed their own lives to save others."
