VoyageFCUhabitatSioux Falls, SD-The Voyage Federal Credit Union "Dream Team", along with members of Habitat for Humanity and volunteers from Avera Hospital showed up to help with a construction project after a recent 3 inches of rain. Our task for the night was to hammer particle board to the gable, then staple the house wrap and nail Styrofoam board on top of that. This involved many tools rarely used before by some of us, and so our construction education began! The volunteers jumped right in as we used Skilsaws, chalk strings, construction knives, ladders, scaffolding (yes, scaffolding!), hammers and nails, and staple guns. All that with an extra pound or two of mud on our shoes! The Saturday build was much drier and sunnier but this time the wind was blowing gusts of dirt backed by speeds upwards of 25 mph! We had to be careful that the blue Styrofoam board wouldn't break right in half! This morning we were also joined by not one, but two of the homeowners! (Photo below.) To meet and work alongside these ladies on their houses was seen as one of the more rewarding builds that some of the volunteers had participated in for Habitat. All in all, it was another successful Habitat build, a fantastic week of heights and humor and home building. Thank you to Orion for graciously donating pizza and cookies for the volunteers.
