Minuteman Meals on Wheels donationsRapid City, SD - The staff from Minuteman FCU donated their Sunday on August 23rd to volunteer downtown at Main Street Square during the bridal fair. All tips received during this event were donated to Meals on Wheels which is a service of Western SD Senior Services. This is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the wellbeing of senior citizens through nutritious meals, nutrition education, socialization, and other supportive services. Their service covers 14 communities in Western SD to people who are homebound and unable to prepare a meal themselves. In addition to the tips donated, the staff also delivered a basket of personal hygiene items which will be used to create gift baskets to hand out during the holidays. The SD Senior services staff was very appreciative and thrilled that we thought of them. Even though we have such a limited staff, its a great feeling knowing we come together to help make a difference in our community. It's extremely rewarding to know we put a smile on someone's face once our seniors realize others really do care about them, said Mary Connick, President/CEO of Minuteman FCU. According to Cheree Pederson, Community Resource Coordinator, they appreciate all the help they can get. Even though they do receive some state and federal funding, they depend on donations to keep the program viable.
