Hanscom Federal Credit Union Honors Hero Among Us

Hanscom AFB, MA Hanscom FCU honored Staff Sgt. David Seng at a recent Lowell Spinners baseball game. Sgt. Seng was part of the credit unions Hero Among Us program to honor military heroes at�four games this season.
Sgt. Seng took part in a pre-game ceremony, threw out the first pitch, and watched the game from a luxury box along with 10 guests.
Master Sgt. Joe Barden, 66 SFS operations superintendent nominated Sgt. Seng for the award. "His selfless dedication shows every day in his efforts to develop his fellow service members and his involvement in the local community," Sgt Barden stated. "We are truly honored to host Sgt. Seng tonight," said Hanscom FCU Chairman of the Board Paul Marotta. "He truly cares about his fellow Airmen, his community, and his country."
Sgt. Seng is with the 66th Security Forces Squadron's Unit Training section at Hanscom Air Force Base. He has been in active duty with the Air Force for eight years, serving three deployments to Iraq and Qatar.
A native of Lynn, MA, Sgt. Seng has maintained strong ties with local veterans and youth programs, volunteering at Team Red, White and Blue events to benefit Post Traumatic Stress recovery as well as Boys and Girls Club basketball tournaments designed to drive home the anti-gang message for local teens.
Recently, Sgt Seng returned from six months at Al Udeid, Qatar, where he worked as the Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of the Quick Reaction Force. His job was to prepare 15 members to rapidly terminate hostile threats to the base. "Sgt Sengs actions safeguarded 100 aircraft and 11,000 personnel, contributing to the success of 8,000 combat sorties," Sgt. Barden explained in his nomination.
Currently, Sgt. Seng works as a trainer in the 66th Security Forces Squadron's Unit Training section, using his experience to instruct 125 military and civilian police officers and maintaining a well-trained force of 32 augmentees. Additionally, he operates the base's seven-bed Level 1 confinement, the Department of Defense's only facility within seven states.
"His dynamic impact was crucial to his squadron's selection over 24 bases, capturing the Air Force's 2014 Best Small Security Forces Unit award," added Sgt. Barden. "Sgt. Seng leads his subordinates and community by positive example."
