Pelican State Credit Union Gives Away $4,000 in Free Groceries

downloadZACHARY, LOUISIANA To celebrate the opening of its new Zachary branch, Pelican State Credit Union gave away $4,000 in free groceries to shoppers in less than 2 hours! Starting at 9 a.m. on August 21, 2015, the first 200 shoppers to visit LeBlancs Frais March� in Zachary, Louisiana, each received $20 in free groceries. "Pelican State Credit Union rocks!" shopper Wanda McKinsey exclaimed. "I bought detergent and paper towels, and my friend even bought a birthday cake," McKinsey added. Her friend told her about the giveaway, and she enjoyed shopping during an early lunch break with her co-workers. Pelican knows its important to support local businesses and wanted to partner with a family-owned grocery store for this event in order to give back to the community that has given so much to the credit union. LeBlancs is locally owned and operated by the LeBlanc family and is located just miles from Pelicans Zachary branch. There was no catch! You did not have to be a member of the credit union to get free groceries and no purchase was necessary. Pelican team members bagged each shoppers groceries in reusable shopping totes and carried bags to their vehicles. The Grocery Store Giveaway is one of the many ways the credit union is giving back to its branch communities and encouraging consumers to bank and shop local. Across the state of Louisiana, the credit union has given away over $12,000 in money booths at festivals and Grand Openings, $8,000 in free gas and groceries and over 1,000 sno-cones. Pelicans new Zachary branch is located at 5850 Main Street in Main Street Plaza. The new location has a state-of-the-art technology center to help members learn how to access their account with a smart phone, tablet and a computer. Plus, it offers more space, more privacy when speaking with a representative and a drive thru window for service on the go!
