GUILFORD, Conn. The spare change we collect adds up and can be used to help make a difference for local charitable organizations. As a part of its community-giving program
ConnexCares, Connex Credit Union recently donated more than $600 from the fees collected by Connexs coin-cashing machine at the Guilford branch to Guilford Youth Mentoring, Inc. Connexs "Coins-for-Change" program charges a five percent fee to members, a seven percent fee to non-members and donates the fees collected to charitable organizations in the local community.
"Wed like to thank Connex Credit Union for selecting Guilford Youth Mentoring to be a participant in their Coins-for-Change Program, and are very appreciative of the support they extend to the community," said Joe Goldberg, president, Guilford Youth Mentoring, Inc. "These funds will expand our ability to provide mentors for every child who needs one and to meet the training and consultation needs of mentors and school staff."
Guilford Youth Mentoring was established in the spring of 2000 and is an individual advocacy program that pairs adult volunteers with high school freshmen for one-on-one weekly meetings. The mentors are caring adults that build a relationship with the children to help improve self-confidence and provide support. The program aims to guide students towards a more positive attitude towards school and their peers, and steer them away from the negative influences that could impede their futures.
