Bowater Employees Credit Union Awards $2,000 Scholarship

Megan WaldenCalhoun, TN - Megan Walden of Etowah, TN has been selected as the winner of Bowater Employees Credit Unions Annual $2,000 College Scholarship.� She competed with many qualified candidates on the basis of grades, school activities, civic activities, and an essay on the importance of credit unions in the lives of young adults. Megan is a graduate of McMinn Central High School, and has begun her undergraduate studies in English at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she is also a University of Tennessee Majorette.� "Bowater Credit Union is proud to have Megan representing her credit union and her community at UT Knoxville," said Kim Gunter, VP Marketing of Bowater Credit Union. In her winning essay, Megan noted that credit unions are important to young people because "Credit Unions care about their members.� This care can start as early as the first years of a child's life." She went on to describe youth savings programs and services that help a young adult learn to navigate the financial world and "Young people will use these financial tools and lessons they have taken from their credit unions and apply them to the rest of their lives so that maybe they themselves will inspire children of their own to begin banking, just as they once did."
