Georgia United Credit Union Provides Opportunities for Work Based Learning for Students

CaptureHENRY COUNTY, GA & DULUTH, GA Georgia United Credit Union and Henry County Schools have reached an agreement to open a full-service branch of the financial institution on the campus of the Academy for Advanced Studies (AAS).� One of the partnerships main goals is to support student career exploration and preparation. The branch will offer Henry County students who are enrolled in the academy an opportunity to participate in paid work-based learning at the credit union. The Academy for Advanced Studies, which last year unveiled a 56,000 square foot, state-of-the-art addition to its current operations on the Henry County High School campus, offers post-secondary education and professional development to students from across Henry County. Its partnership with Georgia United primarily supports students enrolled in the academys Advanced Banking Career Pathway, but will also include professional opportunities for students in several other pathways. "Georgia United is committed to preparing the next generation for success. Through our partnership, Henry County students will have access to youth based financial education and career development opportunities," says Georgia Uniteds Chief Executive Officer and President Debbie Smith. "Our in-school branch will be unique in that students, under the supervision of full-time employees, will take ownership for all day-to-day operations at a full-service branch and receive valuable career experience." Georgia United will hire eight to ten high school students enrolled in AAS to serve as tellers, provide member care service and support marketing efforts, among other responsibilities. Additionally,�credit�union representatives will�conduct�financial education�seminars at�the academy�to help prepare students for�managing their financial future. "Our partnership with Georgia United Credit Union will offer local students unparalleled opportunities to build their professional knowledge, skills and experience, and help them realize their full potential," says AAS CEO John Uesseler. In addition to serving more than 10,000 current members who live within a five-mile radius of the academy, the new branch location has the potential of serving nearly 13,000 students and 5,000 faculty and staff; 14,000 additional college students who also utilize the facility; and more than 22,000 residents in the city of McDonough. A ribbon-cutting event is scheduled for early January 2016, at which point the branch will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, whether or not school is in session.
