"Can we come here next year?" Lowrance asked her mom. "I want to come every single year. Its awesome! I had a lot of fun!" she added. Lowrance and 103 other kids participated in three highly anticipated races divided by age group: 10 12, 6 - 9 and 5 and under. After each race, a lucky winner was drawn to win a new bicycle from Capitol Cyclery. Lowrance, Kodey Brown and Griffin Holland each also held a winning raffle ticket in their respective age group. "Pelican is dedicated to giving back to the Denham Springs community in any way that we can," said Jeffrey K. Conrad, CEO of Pelican State CU. "We believe that both financial and physical health are important and love providing an outlet for the community to come together year after year before school starts," said Conrad. The Bike Race is fun for the whole family! In addition to the races, medals of completion, T-shirts and goody bags for all race participants, there were healthy refreshments, music, games, fire truck tours, a bounce house, face painting and door prizes for parents. "Each year, we will continue to offer this completely free event where all families can leave the cash at home and have some fun together outdoors," added Conrad. This event is possible because of the support of its major sponsors: Tax & Retirement Advisors, Flowers Bakery, Outdoor Powerhouse, Lewy Physical Therapy, Ponchatrain Home Center, Capitol Cyclery, Carters Supermarket, Chick-fil-A, Coca-Cola, Denham Springs Fire Department, Livingston Parish Library, Livingston Parish News, Livingston Parish Sheriffs Office, Raising Canes, Smoothie King, Sport-N-Center and Denham Springs Wal-Mart. Last year, the credit union gave away $4,000 in free groceries to shoppers at Carters Supermarket and thousands of dollars in cash and prizes at the Antique Village Spring and Fall Festivals. Pelican members can benefit from free one-on-one credit counseling, a variety of convenient products and services and several opportunities to win cash and prizes throughout the year.
