CALHOUN, TN Bowater Employees Credit Union member Mike Garren has won $1,000 from Bowater Credit Union to his favorite non-profit, the Calhoun Volunteer Fire Department.
Bowater Credit Union has asked its members to nominate their favorite non-profit helping people in the counties eligible for credit union membership: Bradley, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, and Polk.� The Calhoun Volunteer Fire Department is the second winner of 2015.
The funds will be used towards the purchase of a combination tool that can perform like the "Jaws of Life" and has cutting capabilities needed in rescue operations.� "Over the past many years our department has mainly focused on fire suppression," wrote Garren.� "Due to the growth of our area, we have realized the need to expand the services we provide to include basic vehicle rescue operations."
The cost of the rescue tool and the necessary accessories can cost between $15,000 and $20,000, and anyone interested in donating money towards this important purchase should contact the Fire Department at 423-336-2348.
