Building Bridges and Strengthening Families by working together. Exposing youth to positive influences. Its your community, own it. Learning to save your money was the theme! UT Federal Credit Union in Knoxville, Tennessee participated in the Project Fresh Start Program community outing. The students started their day off with a ride on the Knoxville Area Transit bus to UTFCUs main office. After a tour of the facility several of the students took advantage of the opportunity to open a savings account with their program stipend. The students then participated in a presentation about the benefit of joining a credit union to help them save money. They also learned how to keep their identity to themselves through a discussion on preventing identity theft. The day continued with lunch at a local restaurant and a visit with both Knoxville City and County Mayors. Project Fresh Start was established to help prepare youth with better study habits, social interactions and immersion in the Knoxville community. The six week program engages the students in self-discipline, etiquette, community service, mentoring, job readiness, technology and financial wellbeing. These 12 students ages 14 21 all received a special surprise from one of the associated organizations TVCUC-TAP. Each student went home with a computer equipped with all the programs necessary for them to be more successful with their school work.
